I have read that the increase in myopia is caused by spending more time indoors from a young age, where the eyes can only rest on so many flat surfaces, lacking depth and detail and natural light. This is especially the case in Asian countries with high rates of myopia and apartment living. Maybe modern design is helping to literally turn us blind.
