I almost skipped this post because I already have my camera system of choice. But I thought "I bet there are some garden and kid photos", and I was well rewarded.
Love my Ricoh GR III. I think the positive film and the Hi Contrast B&W jpegs are its speciality, the latter particularly good for Daido Moriyama-style blurry street snaps. Some photos just have a Ricoh *look* to them. And taking tons of photos on the fly without being perfectionist is a good practice. It was my first camera beyond a smartphone and made photography fun again. But I also find it surprisingly flexible editing the RAW files.
The timing of this is amusing to me as I bought a Ricoh GR IIIx yesterday; I was waiting for your comparison notes, Simon, but reading them now (thank you!) I don't think my decision would have changed. For me it's all about the portability, especially as we go on our summer holidays.
For a few years a Canon 6Dii & 40mm was my general camera, so I'm hoping the familiarity with the focal length continues. I don't think anything can beat a good full-frame sensor though, so my Canon R6 (generally with a 50mm) remains the choice for portraits and pictures where I want maximum quality - this is often tone and range as much as sharpness. Having a Q3 43 would be delightful.
There's also the ultimate truth that regardless of your equipment it's what you see that makes interesting photos. Reading reviews is generally dispiriting without evidence that cameras can actually capture beauty. So thanks again!
I've had the Ricoh GR III for a few years and love its portability. I'm still impressed by how much play there is within its RAW files. I think its potential remains untapped unless you open that hatch. That said, you may not need to, your photos are always nice.

Wanted to add a budget option for those with already too many cameras who still want to play: try an adaptor to fit a vintage lens onto your mirrorless body. I shot this 5 minutes ago with a Canon 50mm on a Sony A7ii ✨

Which settings did you use to capture the third picture in your second set of 9 photographs with the X100? It shows the back of your wife's arm and your daughter. I really love the skin tones, the grain and overall atmosphere of that image!

Thanks Simon! I sold my X100T a few years back but three kids later, quality photography has become very important again.
On the fence about another Fuji as the portability of the Ricoh will make me more likely to shoot.

x100vi is one of the best buys I have made as a parent. it’s not expensive considering how much value it provides.

I think if I didn't have the Leica with its slower process, I would definitely consider switching the Ricoh to RAW occasionally.
